    On Friday, October 19, the teams competed in the CCC Invitational. The Girls Varsity continued their success by winning the CCC Invitational and bringing home the Championship Trophy! The boys team ran well and placed in the top 5.
    Wednesday, October 24, the team traveled to Bradenton to compete in the District Championship. The girls team earned a 3rd place team finish and qualified for the Regional Meet on Friday, November 2, in Gainesville.

  • It’s state or bust this season for Shorecrest volleyball

    Shorecrest Prep's volleyball team underwent some changes prior to this season. While the Chargers didn't graduate any players, they did get a new head coach in Raquel Ferreira. And junior setter Annabel Happ and sophomore hitter Kendall Farley are newcomers who get plenty of playing time. After a 13-10 season in which they were the second-best team in Class 4A, District 4 behind eventual state champion Carrollwood Day, the Chargers weren't sure what to expect when this season started. "The biggest challenge for the team this year is that there is new leadership," Ferreira said. "We have two new players and new leadership. It takes time for everyone to adjust."

    • Charger plays National Team Identification Series Champions Cup

      The 2018 USA Baseball National Team Identification Series (NTIS) is the most comprehensive player identification program offered by Team USA. McIntosh Webber '21 joined players from across the country after participating in selection events and tryouts on the regional level and ultimately named to the South Florida regional team. On August 15-19, the South Florida regional team competed against the 15 other regions from across the country at the culminating National Team Identification Series Champions Cup event at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

While each of them worked on improving different skills as players, the common goal among the three of them was to become better leaders and to grow as teammates.

      Athletes must have their FHSAA physical form (EL2) and FHSAA Insurance & Liability form (EL3) completed and turned into the Athletic Office in order to participate in tryouts/practices.       Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee Chair Jim Vigue '89 hosted the awards, which honored Shorecrest athletes both past and present. Five alumni were honored at this ceremony: Hunter Glaum '93, Clay Hall '90, Byron Kiefer '98, Tony Lazzara '98, and Jeff Ritch '01 were all recognized for their success as Chargers. Eight current student athletes were also honored with a Charger Hall of Fame award for Outstanding Achievement in Athletics. The final award of the evening was the Coach of the Year Award, presented to a current Shorecrest coach. The recipient for 2017-18 was Boys' Soccer Coach Jason Montoya who led his team to the Florida State Final Four this year.

      Kyle Corey ‘21 won the Top Youth Angler Award at many of the Wild West events over the past several years. Recently, he once again gained this top award. Before the awards ceremony, Kyle said that he had won the award so many times that he wanted someone else to have the chance to win, and asked that the prize be given to the child who was in second place. “Not many kids would do something like this and it definitely shined through as a true example of sportsmanship.” said a member of the Wild West Kingfish Tournament Series.

    • Varsity Tennis Season Closes, Ledford Advances to States

      Jack Ledford '18, the Chargers number 1 player on the boys tennis team, advances to the FHSAA State finals championships on April 30th at Sanlando Park. Both boys doubles teams, as well as four of the five singles positions, advanced to the semifinal rounds, a first for the Chargers. Girls number 3 singles player Wynn Bryant '20 advanced to the final beating Bradenton Christian in the quarters and ODA in the semifinals before losing to the Charger nemesis, St. Stephens in the finals, 2-6,0-6. Sofia Marston '21 also had a strong tournament before losing in the semifinals to St. Stephens. The girls number 1 doubles team of Melanie Friedman '18 and Bella Rawson '19 beat Sarasota Christian in the quarterfinals before losing to ODA in the semifinals. The girls number 2 doubles team of Wynn and Sofia beat St. Pete Catholic and Cardinal Mooney en route to the finals where they lost to St. Stephens 6-3, 6-2.
