Mexican Students Visit Shorecrest

by: Raffi Darrow, Ebytes Editor
From February 25 through March 9, Shorecrest Lower School hosted its third international delegation. Shorecrest fourth and fifth graders graciously opened their homes and hosted 12 students from Escuela Ameyalli in Mexico City, along with their teachers Ms. Sandra Lopez Campomanes and Ms. Rosse Bolaños.
While at Shorecrest, the visiting students made a cultural presentation for the Lower and Middle Schools, in which they spoke about their country's history and culture and performed a traditional Mexican dance. The students attended classes with Chargers and had a few field trips to get to know the area.

"Another year with our program!" exclaimed an excited Emili Jaime-Allwood, Lower School Spanish Teacher. "We had a visit from a bilingual school from Mexico City. The beauty of this program is practicing our core values, appreciate another culture, and truly being a global citizen. It is impressive to see how the kids visiting and hosting show respect and accept differences, and show the universal language of being a child - they play as if they have been friends forever. Outstanding Chargers, great host families, great teachers, and great delegations visiting make this program such a success! We already have kids who want to host next year! I am so happy to see our children with open minds toward other cultures, this is big for a child."

The delightful group from Mexico will leave with a deeper understanding of our culture, and in exchange have given us a love for theirs!
