by: Cheryl Lee, Co-Chair US Arts Department
Shorecrest Theatre Presents “Puss in Boots the Musical, a Grimm Brothers Production” written by Bill Leavengood '78 with music and lyrics by Rick Crom.
"Puss in Boots the Musical" is a modern, musical adaptation of an old favorite that will be brought to life by Shorecrest's award winning Upper School thespians. This fast-paced, girl-powered musical comedy puts a twist on the classic folktale of a poor miller's daughter who tries to become a princess by using her wits and the help of her clever, boot-wearing cat, Puss. Performances were Thursday, October 11, 2018.
Shorecrest was pleased to welcome special guest Rick Crom, who wrote the music and lyrics for the show. As a composer/lyricist, Mr. Crom has written hundreds of songs for numerous musicals and revues, including "NEWSical," the long-running Off-Broadway hit. As a stand-up comedian, he has played at almost every major comedy club across the country, including being a regular emcee and host at The Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village (where Seinfeld and Louie were filmed). As an actor, he has made guest appearances on many TV shows and appeared on Broadway in the original casts of "Goodbye Girl" and "Urinetown," among others.
Crom and Leavengood have been friends and collaborators for over 30 years. A talk back with Mr. Crom was conducted at the conclusion of the 7pm performance. He also visited with and performed for theatre classes on Thursday.
