Middle School students studied Haiti for several months and led a collection as part of their Service Learning. Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere and one of our North American neighbors in dire need. After suffering through a devastating earthquake in 2010, and most recently Hurricanes Matthew and Irma, Shorecrest once again collaborated with Youth Partners With Haiti to help the Haitians.
Juliette Shelton '18 has been volunteering with and helped found the group Youth Partners With Haiti and spoke with fifth grade about her visits to Haiti and service there - through her church and with Upper School Service Week, along with Bob Rehl from Partners with Haiti.
Middle Schoolers collected items that our friends at YPWH have expressed are in high need––personal hygiene, educational, and recreational.
Donation ideas:
Personal Hygiene (new only): hair brushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, headbands/hair ties, soap/hand sanitizer or deodorant, youth underwear/diapers, and baby wipes.
Recreational Needs: Deflated soccer balls, ball pumps/needles, jump ropes, coloring books/comic books, toys: Matchbox cars, mini action figures, dolls, LEGOs, etc. Arts & Crafts: looms, bracelet-making, paints, puzzles, etc.
