ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES AND REMINDERS FOR LOWER SCHOOL FAMILIES

by: Dr. Lisa Bianco, Head of Lower School
Read UP!
Is your student moving up to the next School at Shorecrest next year? (Eg: JK to Kindergarten, 4th grade to MS, 8th grade to US.) This is a great time to read the next level of Ebytes. Look through stories from this year from the next level up to get a taste of what is to come!

Summer Learning
The summer slide is real. Please plan to engage your children in learning activities throughout the summer. Play math games and engage your child with real-life math activities to help them practice what they've learned this year - maybe use a workbook or access Khan Academy online for practicing fluency. Have them keep a writing journal. Most importantly they need to READ EVERY DAY. If your student receives extra support, they should continue throughout the summer so that your child is set up for success entering school in August.

Mark Your Calendars
- In May, summer reading lists, supply lists and LS summer packets are shared through Ebytes.
- Progress Reports and e-Portfolios: You will receive two emails from me on June 1st letting you know how to access your child’s final progress report and e-Portfolio. The final progress report provides a letter to your child from his or her teacher. I would print the letter/report out, find a quiet space, and read it aloud with your child. I would also put the report somewhere special to refer back to in the future. The e-Portfolios that are now kept in SeeSaw instead of PowerSchool contain writing, inquiry work, and learning reflections. These are fairly new; eventually they will contain your child’s work from grades k through 4.
- Summer letters from Shorecrest will be sent to you in mid-July.
- Your children will receive a letter from their new classroom teacher and a letter to sign-up for Listening Conferences early August
- The dates for the Listening Conferences are Monday and Tuesday, August 14 & 15 (there are no make up days)
- The First Day of School is Wednesday, August 16
- Back to School Night is Thursday, August 24
