Costume Parade Details - *UPDATED*

by: Fall Festival Committee
We are looking forward to this year’s Fall Festival and costume parade sponsored by the Shorecrest Community Association (SCA) on Friday, October 29. The Fall Festival Committee is excited to welcome families back on campus to celebrate this year!

There are a lot of details involved to keep children safe all morning. The details are unique this year, so please read carefully. Below are instructions for:

Student Arrival - Cars & Costumes

The day will begin with a decorated Car Parade during morning carline. Families are invited to share in the spirit of Fall Festival by adorning the outside of your car with fall decorations before coming to campus at your regular time. The event parking field will be open for families to return to after carline.

ES and LS students should arrive in costume ready for a special morning of activities!

A note about costumes:
  • ES students can bring a change of Spirit Wear clothes.
  • Lower School students should be able to see easily and play at recess in their costumes. Fall-themed T-shirts are welcome as well. There will not be time for LS students to change clothes and art projects may be messy.
  • Everyone over the age of 2 needs to have a cloth face mask for indoor activities. A costume mask is not a substitute, but a cloth mask may be worn under a costume. Masks outdoors are optional (this includes the costume parade.)
  • Remember that since there are young children on campus, costumes should not be gory. No costume weapons please.
  • Please keep in mind, making the choice to dress up as someone from another culture, even with the best of intentions, can lead to hurtful portrayals of other people in the Shorecrest community.

Visitor Parking

Find a detailed map with instructions on where to park and where to watch the parade here. (Please do not park alongside the Charger Commons carline. Spots labeled “Reserved” are for faculty, we need room for auto traffic flow, and the interior lanes are where students will be parading.) Please use the event parking field as your first choice.

Parade Viewing

At 8:30am parents are invited to attend our outdoor costume parade. LS will parade down Charger Blvd, circle the flagpole in front of the Athletic Center, past the JRT and Raymund Center, along the front of Charger Commons/ES, and back to LS.

ES will watch from the LS carline benches and join in the back of the parade. They will turn off in the middle to share their costumes just with ES peers and ES families in the Weiss Family Pavilion. ES Parents will have their best view near the Pavilion, which is in front of Charger Commons.

Visitors will be asked to spread out along the entire parade route to ensure as much as social distancing possible. This will also be more fun for the students -- having clapping all along the parade route, rather than only at the start and end of the parade. A detailed map may be found here.

After the costume parade, students will enjoy crafts, snacks and surprises with their classmates and limited SCA volunteers assisting teachers. (Allergy friendly snacks will be available.)

Photos taken during the day will be shared in the following week’s ebytes for you to download and save.

The day concludes with half-day dismissal for grades Alpha - 8th. Kindergarten and first grade and LS students who carpool with them will be dismissed at 11:45am at the Front Gate. ES noon dismissal is at Pratt Boulevard. MS will dismiss at 12:15.

Schools Out Child Care

If you require child care after the noon dismissal, School’s Out Child Care is available. This is NOT the same as after care and registration is required. Limited space is available so please sign up soon! Any child who is not supervised at 12pm will be directed to Schools Out Child Care.

Rain Plan

  • If it rains there will not be a costume parade.
  • Students may dress in costumes, but they will only share with their teachers and peers.
