¡Bienvenidos Amigos Argentinos!

by: Emili Jaime-Allwood, Lower School Spanish Teacher
A delegation of Argentinian students arrived at Shorecrest this week to visit fourth, fifth and sixth grades, with their teacher Julieta Correas, who has brought Argentinian students to Shorecrest since 2004. Eight Middle School Chargers are acting as ambassadors for the visitors.

The Global Explorers Student Exchange & Hosting Program at Shorecrest provides opportunities for Lower and Middle school students and their families to join exchange programs and host overseas students. It fosters curiosity about the world and encourages students to see themselves as global citizens. Through the program Shorecrest has hosted visiting students from Mexico, El Salvador, Argentina and Spain.

Señora Emili Jaime-Allwood, Global Explorers Chair and Lower School Spanish Teacher, said, “Global Explorers helps our students in Lower and Middle School have an appreciation for different cultures in a natural and lively way. It is a great opportunity for Shorecrest students and our visitors to connect, learn about each other, and start getting Global Explorers rolling again after a two year pause.”

Visiting Argentinian students will present about their country in Lower and Middle School Spanish Classes, and they have also visited Spanish classes in Upper School. Their visit also coincides with Hispanic Heritage month, and they were introduced at the Lower School Town Meeting on Friday, September 17 which kicked off that campus celebration.

“The Argentinian students have felt welcomed and so happy at our school,” shared Sra. Jaime-Allwood. “These types of experiences open our students’ minds, helping them appreciate diversity and making them tolerant in a way that you cannot teach in a classroom -- it just happens!”

Reminder: All members of the Shorecrest community are invited to join Latinos en Shorecrest on September 25, 10am - 2pm for an outdoor family fun day on campus to recognize and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Learn more here.
