Announcements and updates for Experiential School Families

Storytelling
The Experiential School classrooms are places where art, manipulatives, writing materials and items for dramatic play are readily available for children to use to share their experiences, express themselves, and communicate what they know and understand. In Junior Kindergarten, the children and their teachers engage in many different types of storytelling; dramatization, oral or written stories and collaborative stories. Stories promote enthusiasm for topics and inspire writing and drawings in our youngest learners. This coming week, the children will be participating in “and then” stories where a beginning story prompt is read and then the children are asked to share ideas, characters and plots for the remainder of the story. They will also participate in Story Acting, a dramatization of the story they have created as a classroom community. Story acting celebrates children’s ideas and provides an opportunity for the class to create meaning around a text of great interest (by JK Teacher Abbie Hahn).
