ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES AND REMINDERS FOR LOWER SCHOOL FAMILIES

by: Dr. Lisa Bianco, Head of Lower School
Update on Auxiliary Programs
Continuing the delay of some extracurriculars, Shorecrest will not be offering after-school clubs this semester. These are fee-based clubs for students in Experiential through Middle School that are under the Auxiliary Programs umbrella, which includes 4th Grade Band. Shorecrest will continue to offer Extended Day for students in Alpha - fourth grade and after-school Study Hall for Middle School students. Details on Sessions 3 and 4 clubs are still to be determined. These are sessions that typically begin after Winter Break. If you have any questions please contact CFO Lisa Wylie at lwylie@shorecrest.org.

Reading at Home is Important
Children should develop the habit of reading with you or independently at home each and every day. Reading should just be part of daily routines like brushing your teeth, getting dressed, or combing your hair. By second grade students are able to read independently for at least 20 minutes. Third and fourth grade students are able to read longer. We want our students to read with an active mind, build a rich reading life and have a positive relationship with books and reading. I know for me, reading a storybook or chapter book each night was always the best part of my day.
