It’s hard to believe that it is August! The start of the school year is rapidly approaching and we are eagerly planning to welcome our faculty and students back to campus in a few short weeks. As has become the norm, the information below comes with the disclaimer that these are our plans as of today, August 1. We remain watchful and aware and are prepared to make changes as appropriate to maintain the health and safety of our school community.
You should be aware that we are working on plans concerning our return to extracurricular activities including athletics, performing arts, after-school clubs and more. We understand that it is important to consider the role that extracurricular activities play, not only in the social and emotional well-being of our students, but also as an avenue toward their college, and potentially career, aspirations. We seek to balance the proper community health considerations through the identification and implementation of appropriate safeguards to enable us to implement extracurricular activities. There continues to be a great deal of thought and preparation about how to safely return to extracurricular activities, while also reimagining and/or modifying our programs. If you intend for your child to begin the school year in Flexible Learning, please notify your respective School Head(s) in writing by August 5
Families who intend to start in-person, on-campus do not need to declare their learning choice.
The August 5 deadline allows the faculty to plan for the starting cohort of Flexible Learning students. All families may change their learning choice (in-person, on-campus vs. Flexible Learning) at any time throughout the school year. Note that families who notify the school after August 5 may experience a lag time of up to two days for synchronous content, depending on the Flexible Learning cohort at the time.
SAGE DINING / DINING ROOM PROCEDURES
As published in the July 15 update of the Return to School Plan
, students enrolled in Flexible Learning are permitted to participate in extracurricular/after-school activities on campus, given that their learning choice is not because of a COVID-19 exposure.MODIFIED OPENING WEEK - AUGUST 19-21
August 19-21 will be a modified schedule for students in Alpha-Eighth Grade. This will allow faculty and staff to review the new health and safety policies and procedures with smaller groups of students.
- Monday, August 24, will be the first full day the entire school is in session on-campus.
- Monday, August 24, is also the first day of Extended Day.
- Families will receive detailed schedules and groupings from their respective division heads on Tuesday, August 4.
