Today marks my first day as Shorecrest's 8th Head of School. I am thrilled to be here and look forward to meeting all of you as the year unfolds. One of the silver linings of the current situation is that through Zoom I have been a part of the Shorecrest Health & Safety Task Force since its inception in March. We benefit from the input and the resources of all the Task Force members, but especially appreciate the guidance of the physicians and their expertise.
This group continues to meet regularly to evaluate our Health and Safety Statement and Return to School Plans in light of changing conditions and the availability of new information.
Balancing our goals of preserving community health and offering in-person, on-campus instruction for the 2020-2021 school year, Shorecrest will require all people, including students in grades K-12, to wear a mask while indoors on-campus. Students in The Experiential School are recommended, but not required, to be masked while indoors. This decision is based on the unanimous recommendation of the medical professionals on the Health & Safety Task Force. Details about the Mask Policy are outlined on page 10 of the updated Health and Safety Statement. This policy is effective July 1.
According to the physicians on the Health & Safety Task Force, wearing face masks is currently the only research-supported intervention that will allow us to bring people together in the safest possible way amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This community effort models our Core Values, and is a way to take care of ourselves and each other as we work to provide a safe and engaging learning environment for Shorecrest students.
The updates to this plan are based on the most recent information as of Wednesday, July 1. The next update will be published on Wednesday, July 15. All updates are posted at www.shorecrest.org/health.
