Chargers Girls Basketball

by: Coach Roddy Brown Jr.
The Shorecrest Varsity Girls Basketball Chargers sit at 3-2 and are currently on a 3 game winning streak after a 45-35 victory over St. Stephen’s Episcopal on Wednesday night.

Renice Dacres ‘19 joined the 1,000 point club (1,005) after a 25 point effort vs. St. Stephens and 31 points vs. SLAM Academy on Tuesday night. She will be honored at halftime during the Boys Varsity Basketball game on Friday, December 7. The ceremony will begin at 8pm.

Mikera Patton ‘20 leads the team in steals and assists averaging 2.5 each per game along with 15 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. After the Chargers victory over St. Stephen’s she stated, “I saw team unity amongst us which was really great. We all played for each other and it made the game fun and easy.” Mikera finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds against St. Stephen’s.

During their 3 game winning streak, Claire Bryant ‘22, Morgan Healy ‘22, Taylor H. ‘23, Nikki Ayers ‘22, and Athena Smith ‘22 have helped the Chargers make life on the court miserable for opponents by holding them to 33 points per game on 18% shooting.

Ava F. ‘25 joined the Varsity program on a full time basis and contributed to a 35-28 victory against St. Pete Catholic while Angel Cherman ‘19 returned from a tough ankle injury on Tuesday to give a defensive life and mature presence in a 54-37 victory over SLAM Academy.

Head Coach Roddy Brown Jr. noted, “We are beginning to retain concepts and habits that are conducive to building a winning program. Our kids are extremely young with 5 freshmen and 2 middle school students, but thanks to Coach Neil they have come into our program ready to work hard and give maximum effort. We are now in a position to compete with anyone on any given night and it’s time for us to focus on our attention to detail and individual skill development."

Middle School
Coach Neil Stough and Chris Oman helped lead our Middle School team to 29-17 victory over Out-of-Door on Monday afternoon! He was impressed their effort and relentlessness over the course of a hard fought game and believes that this bunch (that has no eighth graders) has an extremely high ceiling as long as they make layups, remain focused and coachable, and have fun.

Up Next: Middle School plays Friday afternoon on the road vs. Northside Christian at 4pm, while the Varsity girls open the curtain at the Crisp vs. Calvary Christian on Friday, December 7, at 6pm.
