This week we recognize Jennifer Alesia as a Contributing Charger. Since joining the community in 2018, Jennifer and her son Nick ‘30 have become active members of the Shorecrest Community. This year Jennifer joined the Advancement Committee and participated in each of our three Giving Days as a volunteer.

This week we recognize the Mathews family as Contributing Chargers. Since joining the community in 2012, they have supported Shorecrest through their time, talent and financial support. Throughout the time that Kobi ‘16, Ella ‘28 and Jack ‘31 have been at Shorecrest, Leslie Mathews has shared her talents as a professional photographer and at many events, and also dedicated her time with SCA in support of Teacher Appreciation and Shorecrest Cares.

This week the Shorecrest Advancement Office would like to recognize Ashley and Frank Casano as Contributing Chargers. "Beyond a robust and well-rounded education for our son, Frankie, Shorecrest provides our family with a community of friendship and support both on and off campus. The relationships developed with other members of the Shorecrest community are the backbone of our life here in St. Pete."
This week the Shorecrest Advancement Office would like to recognize the grandparents of Ethan Bekurs ‘24, Karen and Bill Watson, as Contributing Chargers. As grandparents, Karen and Bill connect with the Shorecrest community all the way from Baton Rouge, LA, through their generosity to the Shorecrest Fund. With their donation this year, they included this note.
This week we would like to recognize Andrea and Tim Haddock, parents of John ’24 and Sam ’25. After joining the community in 2020, the Haddock family has supported Shorecrest philanthropically and through their time and talents.

Since joining the community in 2002, Lisa Peck - Upper School science teacher, alumni parent and Shorecrest grandparent - has created a lasting legacy at Shorecrest. In 2016, Mrs. Peck and her husband John were instrumental in establishing Medical Sciences as a signature Upper School program at Shorecrest. In honor of the Peck family's dedication to the program, The Center for Medical Sciences has been renamed the Peck Center for Medical Sciences.

This week’s Contributing Chargers are Dr. Allen Root, husband to former chair of the Arts and Humanities Department Janet Root H'16, and their family - Jennifer '81, Michael '85, and Jonathan. The Roots continue to support the foundation of success that Janet created during her 40 year span of volunteerism at Shorecrest.

This week’s Contributing Charger is Katy Deegan, Shorecrest’s Lower School Technology Coordinator and long time supporter of the Shorecrest Fund. In her ten years at Shorecrest, Ms. Deegan has helped transform technology usage throughout the school. This year Ms. Deegan has been instrumental in the transition to Flexible Learning and expanding our Apple One-To-One programs to start in second grade.

This week’s Contributing Chargers are Terry Martorana, John Procaccino and Lucille ‘28 — a new Middle School family that is having a great experience! They wanted to support the school that has brought so much joy into their lives and honor the hard work of Lucille’s teachers. For the holiday season their family chose to donate 15 gifts, one to thank each of Lucille’s teachers for making their first year at Shorecrest so special.

Diana and Marshall Craig have been deeply involved in the Shorecrest community since 1977. Marshall served two terms on the Board of Trustees and Diana was Director of Admissions from 1989 - 2010. Now as parents of alumni and current grandparents, the Craigs are still very involved in the community through volunteering their time and supporting the school philanthropically.

Shorecrest parent Nick Banko has been a member of the Shorecrest community for 16 years. His son Kole graduated in 2018 and younger son Jett is in the Class of 2021. Jett, a Shorecrest Chargers Athlete, has learned many lessons through athletics that he will carry into college and throughout his life. As a parent, Nick has seen that first hand.
The Shorecrest Community Sponsors Program is designed to connect businesses in the Tampa Bay Area to the Shorecrest community through a variety of annual, program, and event sponsorship opportunities. Throughout the year, Community Sponsors receive recognition and appreciation through many different communication channels and special events.

Michael Gillis, his wife Rosalind and their two daughters, moved from NYC to allow Michael to become the Director of Advancement in 2017. Following commencement from Choate Rosemary Hall, Michael spent a year studying at The Goethe Institute in Salzburg, Austria. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociolinguistics and German from the University of Vermont, and a Fundraising School Certificate at the Lily School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. Mr. Gillis spent the first portion of his career as a producer and director with companies including Fox Home Entertainment, Sony Studios, Columbia Tristar and GMG, Inc. In recent years, he has directed the major gifts program at North County School and a capital campaign for Manhattan Country School. The Gillises have two daughters at Shorecrest, Luna '26 and Sada '28.

Associate Director of Advancement for Shorecrest Fund & Giving Programs
Laina Bennett Coburn is originally from Palm Harbor, and returned to the Tampa Bay Area after previously living in Minneapolis and Atlanta. She joined Shorecrest after working most recently as a fundraiser for The Atlanta Opera. Mrs. Coburn has experience working in non-profit arts organizations, broadcast media and database management. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College where she majored in music, management and media studies.

Olivia Segalman joined the Shorecrest Advancement Office in the summer of 2019. A native of Baltimore, MD, she has lived in Tampa, FL, for the past nine years after attending the University of Tampa, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Advertising and Public Relations. She also holds a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of South Florida. Olivia came to Shorecrest from Tampa Preparatory School where she served as the Communications Coordinator.

Clark Sukaratana came to Shorecrest as a recent graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Finance and master's degree in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. His recent experience includes working with the Boys and Girls Club of Athens and UGA HEROs, and has spent his summers coaching soccer in his hometown of Hinesville, Georgia.
