Core Values

by: Mike Murphy, Headmaster
During the past year, the Shorecrest community identified five Core Values that we believe all members of the community should embrace and model. During meetings with members of the senior class, I have mentioned that when they receive their diploma they will not only have met all the academic requirements for graduation but will also know how they demonstrate the five Shorecrest Core Values.

Embracing the five Core Values is not just an expectation for students. The Headmaster, the Board, faculty, staff, parents and guardians share in the melding of these key ideas into the culture of our school.

Imagine what carline looks like when everyone models respect, responsibility and compassion. Imagine how we behave at athletic events when we fully embrace and model our five Core Values.

I will be encouraging faculty members to determine ways to imbed the five Core Values in every activity we do with each other and with members of our community. I encourage parents and guardians to discuss with your children how you can support each other as you model our five Core Values.

Our Mission Statement includes a phrase that charges us to educate students to become "lifelong learners in the pursuit of personal and academic excellence." While the five Core Values are just a portion of what leads to personal excellence, they are a great start. Other schools may provide academics, athletics, arts and service opportunities, but Shorecrest is unique in that we are a truly independent school that is encouraging students to develop values that our children will carry with them in an increasingly diverse and competitive university and career landscape.

Together, we can give our children advantages that will allow them to be the well educated and noble leaders our cities, states, nation and world needs.
