Contributing Chargers: Steve Wilcox and Thuy La

by: Olivia Segalman, Advancement Associate
Creating a culture of annual giving is what allows Shorecrest to ‘Be More,’ but reasons why donors choose to give can vary greatly from one family to another. The Shorecrest community is a special one. Over the course of the year we will be highlighting some of our Contributing Chargers, those members who have participated in Two Funds. One Mission., and sharing their stories of why they gave.

Today’s Contributing Chargers, Steve Wilcox and Thuy La, are new to the community and after only a few short weeks, knew why they wanted to participate in Two Funds. One Mission.

“We are already seeing Lily ’33 display compassion, happiness, energy, enthusiasm, and excitement about her teachers and friends. The impact that they are having on her is profound.
At Back to School Night, we were asked to thank the parents that were around us, as they are the people that are helping their own child(ren), as well as ours.  We knew that many parents in the audience perhaps had children in our daughter's class or have been attending Shorecrest for many years. At that moment, it became clear that those parents helped establish the foundation for what our daughter is now enjoying and benefiting from. Donating to the Shorecrest Annual Fund, as well as Transform, is our opportunity to let them know how much we appreciate what they have already done for us.
Our family plans to continue to give every year, so Shorecrest can support the outstanding teachers, administrators, staff, security officers, chefs, etc. Giving also ensures that our daughter and all of her classmates will continue to have access to state-of-the-art technology, libraries, convenient and healthy food options, and award-winning Arts and Athletics programs and facilities. Our hope is that by becoming a part of the Shorecrest community, our family will add to the value of this already extraordinary institution.”

This is a pivotal year to sustain the Annual Fund and finish Transform. When we make a gift to Shorecrest, we are really just giving to each other. Our community - our children - are counting on us!

Every gift – whether small or large – helps Shorecrest to fulfill its mission. Visit to join our growing group of supporters.
