Join the Parent/Guardian SEED Group

by: Roderick Avery Fludd, Director of Diversity & Inclusion
As some of you may know, Shorecrest Preparatory School’s Administrative Leadership Team is entering its third year of an Administrative Team SEED group. We are excited to offer a Parent/Guardian SEED program for this year and hope you will join us.

SEED, The Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity Project on Inclusive Curriculum, was developed and launched at the Wellesley College Center for Women in 1987. It is the nation's largest peer-led leadership organization through which participants develop ways of understanding complex relations between self and systems with regard to race, class, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability/disability, and other  cultural experiences.

I would love to take this time to invite you to join a formal, year long, SEED session created for Shorecrest Parents/Guardians.
  • We will typically meet monthly in the evening of the second Wednesday of the month
    • Exceptions: Thursday, Oct. 10 (To be respectful and inclusive of our community members who celebrate Yom Kippur, the October SEED meeting will be held on October 10) and Wednesday, January 15.
  • The first meeting will be September 11, 6-8:30pm in the Haskell Library Classroom.
  • A light dinner will be served at all sessions.
If you are interested in participating in any of this year’s Parent/Guardian SEED group sessions, please complete this confidential form by September 15, 2019. At the end of the form is a brief writing assignment that you will bring with you to the first meeting. There will be additional assignments for the participants throughout the year. These assignments will be in the form of short readings, watching topic related videos, survey or investigation activities and/or journal reflections.

For this year, I will be limiting the number of participants to a maximum of 20 individuals. Please remember that this is a full SEED session and that you will be expected to attend all scheduled meetings. While I understand that emergencies are unavoidable, please check your calendars to see if you will be able to attend 75% (6 of 8) of the meetings.

Please direct any questions that you may have to Roderick Avery Fludd, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, at RFludd@shorecrest.org. I look forward to welcoming you to our next SEED session!
